The baby is healthy. However, he does have a little hydronephrosis and pelvic dilation. Which means, in my Dr's words, "he needs to pee". I got the news after Neil had gone back to work. So, even though it's fairly common and not life threatening, I was upset. I just expected a 100% healthy little one, and that may not be the case. I will have another Ultrasound in 4 weeks (which is a bonus) to see if the issue has resolved or improved. If so, we will just continue to monitor for growth & amniotic fluid. If it gets worse, I will have to go to UAB for a targeted ultrasound to find out the cause of the hydronephrosis. Most commonly, it's some sort of blockage. It's fairly common for little boys to have issues like this. As a matter of fact, as I have read up on it, it accounts for 50% of abnomalities found on 18-20 week ultrasounds. If it doesn't correct or improve, he may need a procedure once he's born to fix the underlying problem. We see this a good bit with our well babies at work. They are, for the most part, completely normal. They just get worked up w/ a renal US and such shortly after birth to make sure things are functioning properly.
So, if you don't mind, please pray that little BOY Morton will have his bladder nice and empty on August 28. And, my goodness, they could have found things MUCH worse than this. But, it still causes a little anxiety.
So, on the day of our US I was excited. But, a little deflated after I heard the news. I prayed for the baby and for peace. I also prayed for God to help me to put things in perspective. I worked Friday night and by Saturday afternoon, I was even more excited than I was when I heard "It's a BOY" for the first time. I can't wait to buy some things for the little guy! Lanie Mae is very excited about having a little BROTHER. She will be the best big sister!!
The thing with the arrow pointing to it is the thing that makes him a boy :)

Hey Kelli,
I had to go back and have additional ultrasounds with 2 of my babies. Ben's stomach wasn't big enough - they said after I stressed for 4 weeks that he probably hadn't drank enough fluid right before ultrasound. Hopefully he needed to pee and just got stage fright! Praying that all will be well in 4 weeks!
Kelli,
You know we are praying for you and baby boy Morton! Hope to see you soon!
